Lightweighting advances at Allied Glass

Allied Glass has recently manufactured a landmark 1 litre tall round spirit bottle at its state of the art Knottingley factory.

Believed to be the first 1 litre bottle to be less than 400 grams, the container weighs in at a mere 398 grams, which is 11% lighter than the existing standard bottle.

The bottle is currently going through its final stages of stringent commercial testing and will be widely available towards the end of 2009.

Alan Henderson, Allied's Operations Director in Knottingley, says:

"Through on-going developments in lightweighting technology at Allied Glass, we are able to manufacture containers which retain the authentic image of a spirit bottle and which by being lighter in weight, are able to provide the spirits industry with improved environmental performance and distribution
cost savings."
